Why John Paul II asked that his notes be burned

One of the provisions in the will of John Paul II was that he asked that his private papers be burned. I’ve been surprised that none of the journalists (even the Catholic ones who should know) who have commented on this have explained it correctly. John Paul II was fulfilling his obligations. He considered correspondence to him to be under the seal of the confessional.

  • Thank you for this information. I have been wondering about it.

Now that I read this I can only say to myself: “Of course! Why didn’t I think of that?”

    This certainly raises the question…

Instead of beginning each letter with the salutation, “Your Holiness,” did each of these letters begin with “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned?”
