After my cataract surgery it’s hard for me to read. Using my left (operated on) eye only it’s too fuzzy with or without my glasses. Using my right eye only with my glasses I can read without difficulty but keeping my left eye closed while I read is a strain on its own.
Since my ordinary daily schedule includes an enormous amount of reading, that restricts my daily activities pretty strictly. In a typical day I would read several hundred emails (mostly uninteresting) and scores of editorials, columns, articles, and blog posts. If I don’t maintain that pace, my Inboxes (multiple email addresses) get cluttered quite quickly. I’m barely able to maintain a quarter of that now.

Cataract surgery is tricky. I had it on one eye while in my late 40s and the other in my early 50s and have had minor cleanup to both eyes since. Mine was further complicated by LASIK surgery in 2000, for which there were no longer records by the time I had my first cataract surgery circa 2012-13. Both of my eyes wound up being a medium focus, even though the doc was shooting for one longer and one close range. Thankfully, I can read pretty well without glasses, but I need glasses for driving and anything over 15ish feet.
Can they not correct your reading vision with glasses? Or just dime store readers?
I think they believe that my reading vision will be corrected with glasses. At least I hope that’s what they believe. It’s certainly what I communicated.
I have worn glasses during waking hours since I was 10. They’re part of my identity. No one has ever recommended contact lenses to me. I presume I’ll still need bifocals.
A voice from the past… praying for a swift and complete recovery of your vision. Your words and ideas are appreciated in these chaotic times.
