Last evening I attended a presentation on the Reese Map and the preservation and restoration of the map by the Northwestern University Library. The Reese Map, published in 1876, is the oldest known map of the city of Evanston. There’s a complete account of the map, a much larger image of the map, and links to a video of the restoration process and other resources here. I was invited by a friend who’s a member of the library’s board and, coincidentally, has an avid amateur interest in cartography.
