Armistice Day, 2009

Any day could be Veteran’s Day, the official federal holiday being celebrated today in the United States, but only the 11th day of the 11th month could be remembered as Armistice Day and that’s how I’ll always remember it.

Soon it will be the 11th hour here in the Central Time Zone. A good time to reflect.

This Armistice Day only five veterans of the Great War survive to remind us. Soon there will be no one who actually remembers its horrors living and it will be left to us to remind those who come after us. It was to have been the War to End All Wars. It wasn’t.
