Another Question

Here’s another question. When will Robert Mueller conclude his investigation and produce his findings?

  1. Before the midterm elections
  2. After the midterm elections
  3. His investigation will continue as long as Trump is president.
  4. His investigation may continue long after Trump is president.

As I have said any number of times, I want Mr. Mueller’s investigation to continue until he has reasonably completed his findings. I don’t think very much of a Kafkaesque continuation of the investigation as a twisted form of vengeance.

My prediction is he will submit a report short of facts but very darkly suggestive of ‘high crimes and misdismeanors’ within two weeks of the mid-terms. If despite it the Republicans keep the House and Senate the report will transform into the final report and he will close up shop in early 2019. If either House or Senate turn blue, it will be a preliminary report, the first of many to come, and the Witch Hunt will continue into the next Presidential administration.

It will end when Mr Mueller’s approval rating is below Trumps (if that ever happens).

Checking around; Trump is around 43 or so and Mueller is in the high 40’s but declining.

Approval ratings! Never looked at it that way. But very good point if the investigations are political, they will bend with the wind.

I doubt it although that’s a Mr. Dooley-esque statement. Do you know who Mr. Dooley was? A fictional Irishman, the main character in a series of columns written by Finlay Peter Dunne in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. On of Mr. Dooley’s most famous remarks is that even the Supreme Court pays attention to the election returns.

In this particular case I don’t believe it. Think of approval for Trump and approval for Mueller’s investigation as a Venn diagram. There is overlap but as either one contracts the area of intersection becomes smaller. Trump’s approval rating is going up while Mueller’s is going down. When Mueller’s approval rating is lower than Trump’s the overlapping section of the diagram will be nearly non-existent.

It should last at least as long as the Benghazi investigations. Maybe another year or so to finalize the real investigation, then another couple of years just because. Dems probably need to win the House back to do that.
