Who Thinks Trump Won the Debate?

To the best of my recollection I have never posted a link to American Greatness before and I don’t expect to again. The post there left me dumbfounded. Eric Lendrum argues that President Trump won his debate with Vice President Harris.

I certainly didn’t see it that way but I will acknowledge that it is far easier to identify who lost. The biggest loser was ABC News. The second biggest was the American people.

I think for some people it was, as Mr. Lendrum avers, a “Rorschach test” but to others it was a sad commentary on the low level of political discourse today and a case in point for why the form should be abandoned entirely. It’s just not an effective method of communicating with modern audiences.

    I was never going to vote for Trump, but Harris probably lost me with this early prepared remark:

    “What we have done and what I intend to do is build on what we know are the aspirations and the hopes of the American people. But I’m going to tell you all, in this debate tonight, you’re going to hear from the same old, tired playbook, a bunch of lies, grievances and name-calling. What you’re going to hear tonight is a detailed and dangerous plan called Project 2025 that the former president intends on implementing if he were elected again. I believe very strongly that the American people want a president who understands the importance of bringing us together knowing we have so much more in common than what separates us.”

    A sandwich made of saccharine hope and unity surrounding lies and fear-mongering. But I turned off the TV when Trump started talking about cats. The post-debate media mostly supported Harris’ Project 2025 (NPR), but others like PBS described it as “mostly false.”

    Interesting confidence in media chart. Trust in media has declined since the late 90s among Republicans, Independents and Democrats, but Democrat confidence got a boost from the Trump years.

    Not seeing your specific beef here PD. Yes, like all politicians she is promising us unicorns and rainbows. They all lie about some stuff. But in that specific statement she refers to Project 2025. Trump is trying to disown it but it was prepared by his former aides, ones who will likely advise him again if he is elected. Besides, Trump doesnt have many real beliefs or ideology, so it will mostly be him signing off on whatever his Congress, assuming GOP takes control, wants to do and while P 2025 is a wish list, its what his core supporters want to do.

    “Who Thinks Trump Won the Debate?”

    Apparently, independents. Although I take your point at the horrific state of political discourse in the country.

    Steve –

    Your comment is silly. Think tanks produce these things every election cycle. Left and right. You, for purely partisan reasons, want to believe Trump endorses it. But they all get disavowed by candidates because they are all so strident in their view. Grow up.

    You would be much more credible if you could explain how Kamala Harris “evolved” at warp speed in a couple weeks after Joe’s political assassination. I’m sure she is sincere……….(snicker). The tapes, the quotes, the policy positions are all out there. Only arse licking media types are buying it. Actually, they aren’t; they are just rank propagandists. Oh, and you.

    Drew- I specifically called it a wish list. I also said, I guess I need to be more explicit, that I dont see Trump pursuing 2025 per se. What I would see is that the radicals in Congress will pursue this. If they pass it Trump will sign whatever they pass.

    Just to say a bit more about the debate issue, the debates have not been real debates for years. It’s all about spewing talking points, lying while rarely being challenged and trying to get off a zinger or hope your opponent says something stupid, though even saying stupid stuff gets so heavily defended now. They should go away.

    Trump will not sign it. Spare me your supposed mind reading capabilities that motivate your bizarre claims.

    Imposition of aspirational think tank fever dreams. This has never been the case. Ever. Treat your TDS, doc. Are you that stupid?

    Kamala Harris won the debate but managed at the same time to lose some of her nebulous support by revealing a glimpse of her true self and failing to dispel evidence of her Marxist beliefs.

    I’d wager that she’s won a number of times in the courtroom leaving each time less popular than she was before she went in.

    Go Blue!! Go Harris and Walz! Your Vote is not worth anymore then my Vote, Go Blue!!

  • Grey Shambler Link

    @Larry:
    There is no Blue.
    There’s big, intrusive expansive expensive unresponsive belligerent reckless militant arrogant dishonest insufferable administrative government and then there’s smaller and more responsive government .
    Tell me what Blue is?

  • steve Link

    “smaller and more responsive government .”

    Not sure which party you are thinking about. If you look at the actual numbers (I know, I know, conservatives are all about feelings but just once look at the numbers) you dont see the GOP spending less than the Dems. They do tend to tax a less bit, leading to larger deficits so maybe that’s what you mean by responsive?

    I shouldn’t have to say that I’m talking about building a Supreme Court that overturned the Chevron deference and put limits on administrative powers to the ultimate end of actually protecting democracy.

    @Grey
    I’m trying to feel your pain, really, I’m trying, I’ll keep working on it.
