What’s a favorite poem?

I thought for quite a while after reading this post by Sissy Willis about what my favorite poem was. Sissy picked Blake’s The Tyger which is certainly a great, vivid, challenging poem.

To me a favorite poem isn’t just one that I admire or recognize or like. I memorize the poetry that I really like. A favorite poem is one that I’ve chewed up, swallowed, and incorpoated into my flesh and bone and brain. It’s one that I live with all of the time.

For me to like a poem that much I have to like how it feels in my mouth and in my head.

  • ah…poems. It reminds me of the very first time I fell inlove, I can write poems everyday of my life. I never lose words and inspiration to write what is on my mind. My fave poet is Neruda especially his love poems like Sonnet XVII. And you were right when you said that to like a poem that much is to like how it feels in the mouth and head. Reading my favorite poem is a therapy.
