Arnold Kling on President Obama’s tax proposal:

I’m used to politicians saying one thing and doing another. I’m used to politicians lying. But it’s strange for a politician to say one thing and then say the opposite, and act as if he’s saying the same thing both times, all in the space of about a week.

Think of the country as a very large focus group.

I think I need a handy definitional chart of the meaning of “Buffett,” because the tax issues Buffett discussed in his editorial, aren’t necessarily the same tax issues that he benefits from, aren’t necessarily the issues the President says needs to be addressed by a “Buffett” rule, which aren’t necessarily the same issues addressed by Obama’s tax plan.

I think Congress should subpoena Buffett to bring his tax records to Capitol Hill and get to the bottom of this before real legislative drift ensues. And what does Jimmy Buffett have to do with this anyway?

Think of the country as a very large focus group.

Alternately, think of this as a very unfocused President.
