Things Fall Apart

It is with genuine regret that I report the departure of Callimachus of Done With Mirrors from the blogosphere. One of the first on my blogroll; one of those I’ve quoted most frequently; one of those I’ve enjoyed reading most fervently; comrade-in-arms in the parlous attempt to reflect on the world without ideological or partisan blinders.

Too many of my favorite centrist bloggers have abandoned the blogosphere. Several were due to work requirements. Others shifted right or left in becoming group blogs. Others simply disappeared.

It’s getting mighty lonely out here.

  • I am beyond bitter about this.

    Another sad loss.

  • A shame, Callimachus was one of the more perceptive bloggers – and his perceptiveness appears to have a role in deciding to cease blogging.

I’m not sure what kind of newsroom C. worked in but right out of college I worked in one for about a year in a fairly fluid capacity that allowed me to interact with every level of the office. While most folks were fine in a personal, small-talk, realm the place was about as politically one-sided as the average faculty lounge but about twice as vindictive. Callimachus probably made a wise choice.

I am appalled that Callimachus has bailed out of the Blogosphere, though I can’t blame him. The flames from the left have burnt a great many people, including Callimachus. His postings will be sorely missed.

He was much more of a teacher than a preacher. His departure from his blog wkill leave us all poorer for it.

Godspeed, Callimachus. (I’m an MSM copy editor who took a buyout early this year.)
