The quote above, spoken by the estimable Ethel Merman is from the movie It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and there is wisdom in them. When you combine enormous and increasing personal empowerment, more people, and a predisposition not to get involved, events of increasing horror and destructiveness will inevitably take place.
The solution is not greater police powers. The solution is intervention at an earlier point in the process. And that in turn means a greater predisposition to take responsibility.
Waiting to see if SSRIs or even more powerful drugs were involved in the latest case.
Also waiting to see if anyone mentions exactly how they expect to disarm the country once they get their gun ban. I’ve already asked several pro-disarmament people this question, and so far I haven’t even gotten so much as *crickets* for a response.
At least when I was young and we used to say “There oughta be a law” we were kidding about the need for an actual law. These folks are serious, and I’d love to hear an explanation. Been asking for one for years whenever this crops up and still haven’t heard a response.
Oops! Wait, I did get one response yesterday. An Englishman suggested that putting out bins on an amnesty day would just lead to all the gangbangers and gun nuts turning in their guns peacefully. The comment made me wonder exactly why we bothered saving England from the Nazis if the English were that fucking useless. But at least it was a response!

I will state again: Calling everything racist has consequences, and those consequences are not good. I hope that everybody who has been trivialising racism is happy. My suggestion is to buckle-up because it is going to get real f*cking bumpy.
