The Risk of War in the Middle East

In a piece at The National Interest Daniel L. Davis has words of caution for the United States:

Israel has an obligation to take actions that ensure its security. If Israeli leaders take risks that result in more attacks against Israel, they must be prepared to deal with that situation. What should not happen, however, is for Tel Aviv to expect the United States Armed Forces to fight alongside the IDF. Washington should not be a party in engaging in military operations that run counter to its national security objectives and could draw it into a new Middle Eastern war.

There is nothing for us to gain and everything for us to lose in fighting a war against Iran. It should be a priority for the White House only to risk losing American servicemen and women if U.S. security is put at risk, not because a foreign government, regardless of how friendly, takes action that is likely to prompt an enemy military response. We must stop choosing war—or one day, it may cost us more than we can imagine.

The second paragraph in particular pretty much encapsulates my views.

I am more worried about Russia. These crazy mother f*ckers have gotten themselves worked up into believing that Russia is about to reestablish the Soviet Union, and they are beginning to realize that there was a reason we had bases and stockpiles in Europe with an industrial base in the US.

So, a nuclear first strike will be the only way to prevent Russia from invading France.

Originally, I thought the WMD crap was just bullshit to get a military base into the ME, and Iraq was a central point. When they did not find any, I realized they were serious. Maybe, I just know how dirty cops work, but you always have a few drop guns, knives, or WMD’s. NOPD could have given them a few tips.

Instead of installing a kinder gentler dictator, these crazy mother f*ckers started nation building.

So, there is no telling what they may do. At least there is some resistance because of Gaza.

Israeli control of the US Congress and White House is so complete that our potential choices and actions are severely constrained, and Israeli interests overrule US interests. If Israeli provocations succeed in inducing an attack by Iran and its allies on Israel, the US will enter that war with no upside limit tp what we will do, including troops on the ground in at least Lebanon, a very large-scale aerial and missile attacks on Iran. We will do this despite the absolute certainty that Iran will shut down oil and gas exports from the Persian Gulf, and crash the world economy.

We will probably not invade Iran, because we are too weak to do so.

Israel isn’t the only actor here. There may be nothing to gain by a full-scale war with Iran, but it remains the case that Iran is hostile and takes hostile actions against us and our allies via its proxies.

And the current conflict was started by Hamas, not Israel. Then Iran’s proxies, Hezbollah and the Houthis, opted to join in and also attack Israel, and the latter has tried, unsuccessfully, to attack US military vessels and continues to attack civilian ships.

The notion that we are “choosing” war has it exactly backward IMO. This war was started by Hamas and is continuing by the aggressive actions of Iran’s proxies.

Russia is sucking fighting against a much smaller, much poorer country. Not worried about them invading France.

Hamas attacked Israel though in context it’s been a long back and forth. Who knows who started it. That said, Hamas did not attack us but we quickly got involved helping Israel. Given that Israel has nukes and is the only fairly stable and prosperous country in the region that is fine. However I can’t see what we would gain by fighting Iran.

It’s pretty difficult for Iran and Israel to have direct confrontation. Seems like Israel and Hezbollah have a tiff every few years anyway.

All of my life, and I am old, the Iranian Revolutionary Regime has been threatening hellfire. It so, I guess here we go again.
Question is, last go ‘round, whose missiles were most depleted, and how many more missiles will break through.
Probably Israel will win, if Iran is stupid enough, with more casualties than the last time.
