The Pack Eating Together

Here’s a sight that always brings me a lot of joy. The pack is eating together.

During the process of putting on the addition our living conditions have been pretty crowded and primitive. There are boxes piled everywhere; sometimes it’s hard to find a path to walk through. We feed our little pack together because it’s easier on us and that’s the way they like it.

Tally is there at the far end. She’s a grand old lady now—both crotchety and a little fay. Every day she reminds us more of her mother. My wife continues to work with her in rally obedience. They may never compete again but Tally loves the activity and my wife’s attention and the two of them simply working together is enough for her.

Nola is in the middle. She’s a bundle of energy—interested in everything and into everything. Her primary interest in life these days seems to be squirrels. Soon we’ll have her certified for tracking competitions—you need to have a dog qualified just to register for a tracking competition. There are precious few Samoyeds who’ve qualified but she’s simply brilliant at it. My wife is also training her in canine agility. She may compete in that someday, too. We also see signs that she may be an excellent herding dog.

Will is at the near end. Both his sister and aunt baby him but, then, everybody loves Will. He just needs his majors to finish his championship. Maybe during the Christmas Cluster.

What a cool picture. Mine would have never lined up in a row like that unless I tied them in place and then they would have escaped before I got to the last one!

I lost my old girl (also a sam) a couple of months ago. She was a busy girl up until the day before she died (at almost 15). I just love the oldsters, they have a special sweetness about them. Of course sometimes that sweetness is buried in a thick layer of crabby old lady!

We’re down to 2 sams now. One is 13 and in renal failure and the other is a 7 year old troll. We’ve been on a puppy hunt for a while now.
