Matthew Yglesias provides an interesting operative definition of liberals:
People who think that people born in Mexico are human beings but fetuses are not.
Is it any wonder that a majority of Americans believe that healthcare reform is likely to mean federally-sponsored healthcare for illegals and taxpayer-funded abortions? Ezra Klein may believe that these are lies but apparently there are lots of real liberals ready to stand up to tell him that they’re not.
Sometimes you reap what you sow.
If you use uninsured figures that include illegal immigrants and claim your goal is to eliminate the uninsured, many people will think you want to insure illegal immigrants.
If you tell people that health care reform won’t cost much, you’ll just have to do without unnecessary care, many people will think you are setting up a program to determine what care is necessary.
If liberal commentators say that the public option is a good first step towards their preferred goal of a single-payer system, many people will think that the public option is a first step towards a single-payer system.
It’s a cruel world.
That’s perfect PD!
