The dangers of barbecue

I am shocked, shocked that an old hand like Glenn Reynolds would get himself embroiled in such a delicate subject as barbecue. In my experience (as a Missourian and Missouri has some pretty darned good barbecue of its own) the only subject that’s more likely to get a more heated response is religion.

Religion, barbecue, politics, sports. Pretty much in that order.

But (sticking my finger into it) I’ve still got to say that the best ribs I’ve had in my whole life were at the late lamented Big John’s in Peoria.

  • The best barbecue I ever had was from two guys who set up an oil-drum pit under a blue tarp in a parking lot in a down-and-out section of Pittsburgh’s (yes) East End. All they did was ribs. You got a full rack, two pieces of white bread and some slaw, all thrown on a few paper plates wrapped in aluminum foil. They were heaven.

  • I spent 4+ years in St. Louis and never had good barbecue there! Only my roommie from K.C. could do anything right…

  • St. Louis is a hard city to visit or live in for a short time. It’s a city of family doings and it’s not like Chicago, for example, where there are hundreds of good restaurants. You’ve got to know where the good places are.

Im from Georgia, and I know bbq.I dont”t know about yall, but i’ve traveled all round. Recently ive been over the asia pacific to this lil’ island called “Guam.” Let me tell you this, the bbq there is like no other! These folks love to bbq! In all my tasting experience I think “Guam” bbq is the best. Better even then em texan or kentuck bbq i sampled back then in em regional bbq contests.
