The Watcher’s Council has announced their selections for the posts of the last week most deserving of recognition. The winning Council post was Gates of Vienna’s rant, “Is Britain Too Decadent to Survive?”. The first responsibility of any government is the safety of its citizens and, if it can’t do that, what good is it? Dymphna’s message is simple: faster, please. Her post makes a good companion piece to my own second-place finisher, “In for the long haul: what needs to happen in the War on Terror”.

The winning non-Council post was Norm Geras’s “Apologists Among Us”. Also, check out the second-place non-Council post, Steve Green’s “Not Getting It Department”, which touches on themes I’ve frequently posted on here.

The Watcher’s Council has announced their selections for the posts of the last week most deserving of recognition. The winning Council post was The Sundries Shack’s rant, “I Despair”, a lament of the sad state of far too much public opinion these days. The winning non-Council post was Winds of Change’s remarkable post and Flash presentation, “Al Qaeda Attacks: A Flash Presentation”. This visual presentation of al-Qaeda terror attacks with multiple casualties from 1998 to the present makes it clear that we’re not just talking about a few isolated incidences. And that the motivation for the attacks cannot reasonably be considered to be Iraq. Or Palestine.

If you want to know why the remarkable young men and women who serve in our military do what they do when, frankly, they’d rather be out surfing, read this.

The Watcher’s Council has announced its selections for the best posts of the past week. The winning council post was Right Wing Nut House’s excellent post A Killer in the Shadows about the potential avian flu pandemic. It’s a warning I fear we should be taking more seriously. And, by the way, for the latest news on avian flu take a look at Tyler Cowen’s Avian Flu Blog.

The winning non-council post was Taking Islam Seriously from the much-esteemed Bloggledygook.

You can find the complete list of results here.

And I would be remiss in not mentioning that a position has opened up on the Council. If you like to read great posts and promote better blogging, it’s a wonderful opportunity. For more details see here.

The Watcher’s Council has announced their decision on the best posts of the week. The winning council post is Gates of Vienna’s critique of the role of Big Media in reporting the news in the War on Terror, “MSM — MIA or AWOL?”. The winning non-council post is The Indepundit’s great post, “Blood and Justice”. Using a combination of first person narrative, photos, and commentary, Smash mounts a stirring defense of the actions of the U. S. over the past fifteen years in the Middle East. If you don’t read anything else today, read this post. It’s a perfect companion piece to Dymphna’s winning council post: it demonstrates what Big Media could be doing.

The Watcher’s Council has announced their selections of posts from this week that they have considered especially worthy of recognition. It was a jump ball this week between Right Wing Nuthouse’s post “Please Don’t Run, Newt” and my own post, “Intellectual Property and the Trade Deficit”. The Watcher cast the deciding vote for the other guy and you won’t go wrong reading this informative, well-reasoned post. I voted for it myself, so, obviously, I think pretty highly of it.

The winning non-council post was Varifrank’s “ I Got Your Desecration Right Here Pal”. I found this a very moving, highly emotional post. It deserves your attention.

The Watcher’s Council has completed their selection of posts especially worthy of recognition for the week. This week’s top Council post was Carpe Bonum’s post, “Hostages: Time for America to Act”, which outlined some possible courses of action to reduce hostage-taking in Iraq. This week’s top non-Council post was New Sisyphus’s post, “The Great Islamic Warrior: Stewardresses, Elementary Schoolchildren and Wounded Crash Survivors”. To be perfectly honest I don’t believe that shame is an effective weapon against the street thugs that comprise much of the “resistance” in Iraq—a not unexpected consequence of years under a regime so brutal that criminality became a survival tool. It’s a good post nonetheless and I commend it to your attention.

I’m proud to say that my own post, “U. S. Policy of Total Extermination in Iraq?“ tied for second among Council posts and the post I nominated, Done With Mirror’s “Wilsonians, Part I”, was voted into second place among non-Council posts.

The complete set of results can be found here. Each and every post is a worthwhile read.

Every week The Watchers Council selects two posts that are especially worthy of consideration, one written by a member of the Council, one from the blogosphere at large. Both of this week’s selected posts are about China. I’m proud to say that the Council saw fit to honor my own post, “China’s Time Bombs”.. The non-council post that was selected was the truly excellent post “War With China: 2008 – 2010?” from The Redhunter. This post is genuinely worth a read.

This week’s candidates were particularly noteworthy and well worth your your time. Take a look! The complete list of results are here.
