Stories of the Day

If you’re wondering why I have been so silent today here are the leading stories of the day:

  • Missionaries kidnapped in Haiti. Third World countries are dangerous and going there including as a missionary, maybe especially as a missionary is risky.
  • British MP murdered by Briton of Somali heritage. Was he motivated by radical Islam? Maybe some day people will start taking religion seriously at face value. That will require a substantial psychological readjustment.
  • Indocent exposure. The Chicago Art institute has fired its volunteer docents for being too white and too well-to-do.
  • About half of Chicago police officers have not been inoculated against COVID-19 and are reluctant to do so regardless of the mayor’s dictum. Who will blink first?

That’s about it. Other than the ordinary partisan bickering.

You missed one. With shelves becoming more bare by the day, shortages increasing prices, all while cargo ships pile up at shipping ports, the Cabinet Secretary is hard at work on the problem…………….of washing dirty diapers. Of course, given on-the-job Myorkis’ performance that might not be a bad thing.

Not widely known, Savannah is the third largest shipping port in the US, behind Long Beach and NJ. We took a boat tour last week up and down the river while receiving a tutorial on the shipping issue. It was an eye opener. The problem is massive, and all about getting product in and out of the ports by land based methods. Their are plenty of containers; they are stacked on the ships. There is plenty of goods; they are stacked on the ships. Where are the truckers, trains and planes to move it about?

  • I consider that a “dog bites man” story. Since its inception Secretary of Transportation has been largely a sinecure political appointment. Those actually qualified for the role and doing something productive in it have been more the exception than the rule.

The Buttigieg cabinet position was a payoff for dropping out of the race, per your comment.

Maybe because of my perform or die profession, I have a harder edge. This is a very serious problem. If Buttigieg wants to play mommy that’s fine, but then resign and go do it. Or put someone competent in charge. Clearly no one is in charge of the issue.

The only other explanation I could envision is that the the Biden Administration in general is just so incompetent, or so vested in its covid hysteria campaign that chasing away the logistics workers and supply problems are just broken eggs on their way to their omelet.

How is the Biden admin supposed to provide more truckers, assuming we dont want to do anything you would call socialism. Granted you will say that no matter what they do, but go ahead and give it a shot. (Just a guess but bet you would suggest tax breaks of some sort. Big tax breaks to the trucking company owners and, magic, we get more truckers.)

Dave- The Tribune certainly suggested that the docent issue had a lot to do with the union. They wanted those to be paid positions.
