in her Wall Street Journal column Kimberley Strassel describes the internecine warfare being waged within the Democratic Party:
That there are two, extremely polarized sides is also the one clear takeaway from the Iowa muddle. While the Sanders and Pete Buttigieg campaigns argue over how many state-delegate equivalents can dance on the head of a pin, the bigger point is that they ended the final vote with near equal numbers. Overall, the two candidates unapologetically pushing Medicare for All (Bernie and Elizabeth Warren) took 47% of the final vote, while the three more “moderate†contenders (Mr. Buttigieg, Joe Biden and Amy Klobuchar) took 51%.
The chasm in the party has been on display particularly under Speaker Pelosi’s leadership. It brewed in the bitter spring fights over which wing got its way on how to sanction Rep. Ilhan Omar for anti-Semitic comments; which wing spoke for the party on climate and health care; which wing set its antigun agenda. And most consequentially, which wing won the day on impeachment. Mrs. Pelosi ultimately gave in to threats against her speakership and allowed her firebrands to serve as the face of the party in a weak and doomed impeachment proceeding.
The present circumstances, with one half of the Democratic Party seeking to purge the party of its history, oust the other half of the party who won’t support their ideological program, and rebuild the party in their own image on the skeletal remains of the party of Jefferson, Jackson, Wilson, Roosevelt, Kennedy, and Clinton who will become un-persons. That explains the panic expressed by Hillary Clinton, Rahm Emanuel, and James Carville among others. They’s concerned they’re about to become oustees.
The squeaky wheel is the one that always gets the attention. This is especially self evident in today’s democrat party, where the ones with extremist ideological passions and voices have become the party’s optics and compass.
An example, of where the dem party is headed, is embedded in the New Way Forward Act that was quietly introduced in December 2019. Couched in details are that it’s passage would decriminalize illegal entries, nullify deportation of criminal aliens, and even bring back “home†some illegal people already deported – measures that further augment the Democrat’s sanctuary city stance and calls to eliminate ICE’s effectiveness. Itâ€s substance is described as the Open Border’s Bill, disguised in an acceptable name. However, that’s the route so many bad bills and ideas are initially introduced, in order to escape public scrutiny and a real understanding of the unintended consequences should such bills be passed and then implemented.
Maybe not directly on topic, but this is my concern. Politicians and other powerful people attract wealth. Ronald Reagan grew wealthy through California real estate. G.W. Bush’s powerful family friends made him rich through an insider deal involving ownership of the Texas Rangers baseball franchise. Bill and Hillary Clinton broke new ground though, through their foundation, accepting foreign money some of us believe was quid-pro-quo for influence, especially from China. President Obama was smart, he collected his millions for speaking fees after leaving office. I have no reason to believe it’s dirty money but the sheer size of the fees and V.P. Biden’s activities in China make me wonder.
A president H.R.C. or Biden is business as usual for the C.C.P. Trump has broken that corrupt chain. The Ukrainian phone call was a legitimate part of that effort.
A lot of people have accused Trump of cashing in on the Presidency but the evidence is thin.
