Scenes From a Marriage

The other day after reading this article in the New York Times on a British study that found a declining rate of dementia among the elderly there which they attribute to better health, generally, and education I pointed the article out to my wife as something she might have an interest in reading. Here’s a facsimile of our dialogue:

Me: Here’s an article you might be interested in. A British study found a decreasing rate of dementia in the elderly there. They say it’s due to better health and education.

She: That won’t do much for people like Jan Peterson who develop it so young.

Me: Do you really think you’re in danger of early onset Alzheimer’s?

She: You really know how to make a girl feel special.

Once, back in 1987, there was this one husband who actually came out on top in one of these exchanges. Not before, not since.
