Riddle Me This

Here’s an interesting graph, courtesy of Statista:

Feel free to offer your own explanations for that. One possibility is that the worst is yet to come for the U. S.

Yet the plot of daily deaths from Statista shows no corresponding increase in deaths. The peak was in the spring, and current death rate is a small fraction of the peak.

I will agree with Briggs that the increase in cases is an artifact of the extraordinary increase in testing. Note that the number of cases during the spring peak is very much smaller than the current number.

This thing is over, except for the lunatics in charge, who will most likely drive us into another Great Depression.

The first Great Depression gave us fascist and communist governments everywhere and a world war.

  • EU countries did not sharply increase their testing in mid-September.

I’ll go with a the worst is yet to come with a side of pandemic fatigue with American side of political opportunism.

Will be interesting to see how things fall when the inevitable Great Depression Rides Again hits.

Suspecting seasonality, primarily sun-related because I’m not sure the weather is so bad that it forces people to stay inside. Look at this chart tracking Boston’s wastewater monitoring:

The virus count in the poo appears to be heading back to their devastating April peak.

Is it possible the pool of uninfected, (USA) is smaller now, (adjusted for population), and Europe, having done a better job of tamping down in the summer, is now catching up?
I still see this as a controlled burn, almost all will be exposed, the timing being all we can control.

  • Note that Europe is, in general, a lot farther north than the U. S. The latitude of Rome is about the same as that of Chicago. The latitude of Seville in Spain is about the same as that of St. Louis. London is about the same latitude as Prince George, British Columbia. In the United States almost all milk sold commercially is fortified with Vitamin D. That is not the case in Europe.

You’re all wrong. Clearly Trump has secretly been traveling to Europe and causing this. Just ask Joe Biden……….

Europe did not sharply increase its testing but it has increased. So I would bet the earlier peak would have been much higher, as would ours, with adequate testing. Why is there case count higher than ours? I dont think I know all of the EU enough to knowledgeably comment. I do think it is too early to know where this is going. I will note that we are seeing almost no flu here yet.
