Question About an Oprah Run

Is being eligible for Social Security Retirement benefits now a prerequisite for seeking the presidency?

Don’t worry. Apparently the Trustees are openly talking about means testing now. Somehow I think she might not qualify…….. 🤑

  • SSRI has been means-tested for decades. It’s done sort of backwards. The lower your income, the higher your benefit.

Regardless of her income, Oprah will still be eligible for SSRI and Medicaid benefits.

I’m talking about “thanks for contributions, but you don’t need it.” Politically I’m sure it’s a non-starter, although I’m sure the Bernie crowd could convince themselves.

The demographics speak for themselves. Watch for grandfathering and phase in of benefit reductions. How soon? Dono.

If you are a Democrat, you must be older than dirt to run and get nominated. So Oprah might be too young until 2024, when she turns 70.

This is an inversion of Democratic Party history. Dems traditionally nominate younger politicians for President. Kerry had been their oldest non-incumbent nominee since the 1800s. Hillary was, if memory serves, their second oldest nominee since the Civil War. Looking at Bernie, who was even older, and Biden & Warren, the Dems have become the party of geriatric candidates.

Right now Obama looks more & more unusual in that regard, as W was unusual by Republican standards because of his youth.

These are strange times we’re living in.

People keep saying “Baby Boomers” when what I think they really mean is “Silent Generation”. I think that what we’re seeing is a Silent Generation problem. The entire Democratic leadership is composed of Silent Generation or VERY early Baby Boomers (barely Baby Boomers at all) with the exception of Chuck Schumer.

Oprah…go figure! I have heard “The Rock” also has interest in an Oval Office run. Pretty soon Trump will seem rather conventional when compared to the glittering or muscle-pumped people seeking office in the future! These are definitely “strange” times we are in. However, it’s concurrently a “strange” culture we’ve created where they are all being spawned too!

It looks to me like we are favoring wealthy people now, and those are mostly going to be older.

If only Arnold was a natural born citizen – we could have an epic, if geriatric, Oprah – Terminator Presidential race.

Wealth is certainly one of the factors but it seems to me that name recognition is, too. Keep in mind that Trump’s campaign demonstrated conclusively that the outspend strategy that had prevailed for years was either obsolete or had never worked. What did he spend? A third of what Hillary Clinton did? And that’s not even counting the massive in kind contributions the Clinton campaign received.
