Putting the “Pan” in Pandemic

On Friday evening I developed a cough. When I awoke in the morning I had a sore throat, body aches, and was running a slight fever. I took a COVID test. It was positive. I reached out to my primary care provider and after a bit received a prescription for Paxlovid. I have been taking that for several days now and feel considerably better.

I don’t expect to be fully recovered for weeks but at least I shouldn’t be contagious in a bit.

I’ll post as I recover but not as frequently as typical.

Not following this as closely now that I am retired but while death rates and severe illness are way down for the vaccinated it does seem like the recovery period can still be annoyingly long with a cough or fatigue lasting for a couple weeks. Good luck!

  • Both my wife and I are fully vaccinated and boosted. And cautious.

Maybe it will kill me. Maybe it won’t. Maybe I’ll just wish it would kill me.

What bothers me most now is not wanting to spread it. So I’m not going out other than to walk the dog. I may have to break down and have some groceries delivered. I’ll make that decision within the next few hours.

Good to hear from you. As someone who posts so regularly, it makes me wonder what happened. COVID sucks (or so I hear).

There were some articles earlier this month that argued that the underprescription of Paxlovid might be our biggest COVID policy failure. It probably decreases spread by reducing viral replicatoion and might reduce incident of long COVID. It’s good that your doctor was aware of this because it doesn’t seem that doctors are necessarily up on this.

Everybody in my family has had COVID, and most of them got the first variant. With the exception of my sister’s mother-in-law, everybody is alive and kicking. That sister’s husband was hospitalized with breathing problems, but he is grossly overweight.

Mine was later, and it was probably a milder variant. I was vaccinated, but my wife was not. We both had the same symptoms.

You have a better chance of getting run over by a bus, and then, you will be listed as a COVID fatality.

Anyway, I wish you well. For me, the throat ache was like swallowing razor blades.

Sorry to hear this, Dave. Best. But I suspect you, at your advanced age 🙂 probably made the right cost/benefit on vaccination. But to no avail, I guess. Decisions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XzILAxpRi8

All hopes for a speedy recovery.

Chicken Soup and listening to the Goldbergs is my only comment.

I spent a lot of time in a recliner (drainage) and watched continuous reruns of Mexican soccer matches, which was about my mental speed at the time.

    Rest well, and heal up!

  • When you say “The Goldbergs” I assume you mean the TV show. For me “The Goldbergs” is the radio program,

The radio show is what I recall best. While a young’un, thought radio drama/comedy was better than TV until my first color set in 1976.
