Photos

I was going through a little mental exercise. Like everybody else I have two parents, four grandparents, eight great-grandparents, and sixteen great-great-grandparents. I have photographs, of course, of my parents and all of my grandparents. I have photographs of all but one of my great-grandparents and three of my great-great-grandparents. None of any of my great-great-great-grandparents.

The oldest go back to the 1860s and 1870s.

I’ll start assembling them and post them.

Sadly, I do not much resemble any of my better-looking ancestors.

That’s an impressive number of ancestors’ photos.

    My counts:
    -Parents and all 4 grandparents
-6/8 great grandparents (missing the parents of my maternal grandfather who left my grandmother and mother when mom was a baby- we have two photos of him but not his parents)
-2/16 great-great grandparents- the only set who immigrated to the US. The other branches of my family all came to the US from Poland either just before or during the time of my grandparents’ childhood.

  • You’ve brought up a good point: having photos is a fair indicator of U. S, residence. It’s also an indicator of prosperity. Chronology is important, too.

My parents were born in 1914 and 1922. My grandparents were born from 1870-1899. My great-grandparents were born from 1851 to 1874. My great-great-grandparents were born from 1812-1852.
