Speaking of ends we are reaching the end of our tomato harvest for this year. This year we planted Cherokee Purples, Genuwines, Romas, and Midnight Romas. I’m using the last of our Romas along with some of our last Midnight Romas. The Genuwines were an experiment that worked out well. We’ll probably plant all four of those again next year.
This season has been a real wrestling match with the squirrels who refuse to be deterred. They also refuse to eat the tomatoes. They just take a bite and leave the rest which is a waste.
That one bite thing annoyed me. We build the garden a bit away from the house and then added bird feeders close to the house and the trees the squirrels like. We always keep one fo the feeders full of stuff squirrels like. This reduced traffic to the garden. For those that still went that way I have a nice air rifle with a decent scope. Tried traps too but was a bit fo a hassle and there is that satisfaction from shooting the little bastards you miss out on with traps.

My wife harvested the last of the potatoes today. We’re letting them “cure” a little before eating them. We excited to try our squash—they’ve been curing for a while now and I’ll probably prepare some on Sunday.
Do you like the Delicate squashes? I am not that much of a squash fan but we have made them for church several times, but it was the Delicata that made a real hit. They are pretty, you dont have to peel them and just a touch sweet. Roasted them with just slat and pepper but also with some cinnamon and well received both ways.

Those sound good.
We’re raising Lodi squash.
