No Fault Divorce

I found the results of a poll taken by Wenzel Strategies interesting. This is a poll of Muslims in the United States.

  Yes/Agree No/Disagree
Do you believe that criticism of Islam or Muhammad should be allowed under the Constitution’s First Amendment? 42.2% 57.8%
Do you agree or disagree that those who criticize or parody Islam in the U. S. should face criminal charges? 45.5% 37.7%
Do you agree or disagree that Americans who criticize or parody Islam should be put to death? 11.5% 78.5%

There are other poll results of Muslims in the United States on having Muslims here live under Sharia law rather than U. S. law and the acceptability of violence against Americans in the name of global jihad. As should be clear, these results are very different from the opinions of Americans who aren’t Muslims.

Now, it seems to me that you can have one of several different reactions to these polls. One of them is to reject them on the basis of the organization that commissioned the poll. From a logical standpoint it takes more than that to reject results. You should have some other actual basis for rejecting the results, e.g. method, the sample, etc.

You could accept the results but consider them uninteresting.

You could accept the results and believe that we should change our views to accommodate Muslims in the U. S. I’m not entirely sure how that could be accomplished.

Or you could think that a sizeable fraction of Muslims have preferences that are genuinely antithetical to the views that Americans espouse, cannot possibly be happy here, and should be discouraged from coming here.

It really is the case that different people believe different things, have different preferences, and different goals. We should accept that there may be no alternative for two cultures with radically different views but to seek a divorce.

Screening out immigrants won’t adapt to our customs should be a no brainer, yet such things fall into the “if he is for it, I’m agin it” reflex.

I’d say it’s good advice to be skeptical of polls that are bought and paid-for by WorldNetDaily.

When someone has been entirely biased and ridiculous in the past, why would you take them seriously now?

At best, you might look at this poll, and try to get a more reputable polling firm to do a similar poll.

    1) How do these results compare to opinions among practitioners of other monotheistic cults (christians, jews?)

    2) Americans commonly and historically advocate social violence in pursuit of their ideologies without committing violence. Threatening death, jail, apple pie.

The entire poll consisted of 803 people. 1.8% were Muslims. Need I say more?

    steve,
The opinions of Muslims on Sharia are from a 2012 poll different from the national security poll. Instadufus appears to think they’re the same one.

You guys can attack the poll if you like, but you miss the point that there have been others, and that Muslim silence is deafening.

Why not poll readers as to their opinion of Muslim ritual circumcision? That would be enlightening, since many Christians and Jews practice this form of male genital mutilation. Circumcision is not required of Muslims or Christians by their scriptures (Quran or New Testament).
