More on the Television Writers’ Strike

The WGA Writer’s strike has gone on to its second week, actors are manning the picket lines in sympathy, and I still don’t know what to make of the strike.

skippy the bush kangaroo, posting at The Moderate Voice, has written a post in support of the writers.

I’d still like a breakdown of how the revenue pie is currently divided. Learning that the writers are asking for an additional 4 cents and the cost of a DVD is $29.95 doesn’t really tell me a great deal.

My suspicion, as I’ve suggested before, is that the effects of the strike will be to further strengthen televisions competitors and further motivate producers to move towards product without writers.

And I honestly wish that the writers were showing a little more creativity in their strike demands. I doubt that the residuals compensation model has a lot more gas left in it in the Internet age.

  • The problem is getting a straight answer on accounting. Hollywood accounting is a tissue of lies. They might as well be mafia. We’ve done book deals aplenty, and one Hollywood deal. Guess which one screwed us?
