I’ve finally succeeded in removing an infestation that’s been bedevilling me for some time now. A commenter alerted me to the problem (his site had the same problem) and it’s taken me several weeks to identify it and correct it. I suspect it’s been there for about six months.
It’s normally completely invisible to any but the knowledgeable and I suspect that its sole reason for existence is to induce search engines to index their sites.
It’s frustrating when you’ve worked hard for years to establish a decent, interesting, thought-provoking site to have to put up with this kind of stuff. I’ll need to be more vigilant from now on and, possibly, invent some method of quickly checking the veracity of my site.
