Missing soldiers found dead

You probably know that the two U. S. soldiers who were missing after an attack on a checkpoint in Iraq have now been found dead. I’ll spare you the gruesome details.

Requiescant in pace, Amen. Et lux perpetua luceat eis.

I don’t have any more to say other than that I pray that their comrades won’t be moved to hatred.

UPDATE: McQ of QandO Blog suggests that the unofficial lesson of this incident is fight to the death.

ANOTHER UPDATE:  Andrew Olmsted seems to be thinking along lines similar to both mine and McQ’s:

The next few days will be very difficult for American troops in Iraq. Even those not seeking revenge are likely to be a little nervous about any threats of being captured by the enemy. This is likely to mean they’ll be a little quicker on the trigger, if their leadership isn’t very careful. I have confidence in the leadership of our troops as a rule, but this is going to present a very painful challenge for them.

  • I suspect that all coalition soldiers are told that surrender is not an option. A successful “snatch” operation will disable a victim before taking him in custody. A seriously wounded or unconscious soldier cannot resist.

For some reason the terrorist jihadis appear to believe that there will be no retribution. This is their Disneyland playtime where the worst thing that can happen to them is to be delivered to 72 virgins.

Up until now the coalition forces have been tightly leashed by rules of engagement. For the most part they have practised restraint within Iraq, and honoured national boundaries of nations that funnel jihadis, weapons, and explosives into Iraq. At some point all of that could change.

  • Perhaps not too many more will die this way. But I’m betting the Occupation of Iraq will go on for a long, long time. And that there will be many, many more deaths on both sides. What are these two? Just two more. Two more tragedies in a sea of tragedy. Next month, the MSM will have totally forgotten them, and be scrabbling at the dissimilating sound bites of our Liar in Chief like ants to honey—the man truly responsible for those two deaths, as well as all the others that will happen today, tomorrow, and the day after….

  • This is jihad. It is the shame of muslim arabs occupied by outsiders. Not just any outsiders, but outsiders who are allied with the Israelis. The shame is the miserable condition of arab lands, where an occupied nation like Iraq with all the terror destruction of pipelines, oil fields, arab suicide bombings–Iraq is still a more open and democratic than most arab nations. Arabs are failures of the world. UAE, KSA–they all have to have outsiders to run their oil infrastructure and modern technology. Shame.
