Me

I don’t know that I’ve ever described myself here. I’m average height, with a full head of grey hair, slightly more thinning on top and in front than it was just a couple of years ago, and a grey mustache. I’ve had the mustache since college. I wear wireframe glasses.

I’m somewhat overweight as is not unusual among men of my age. I do not have a pendulous belly. I have broad shoulders, long arms, and a deep chest. I’m in the 99th percentile of Americans for frame. I am very long-waisted or have much shorter legs relative to my height (depending on how you look at it) than most men do. I recall that when I was in college I noticed that most of my friends were much taller than I but when when we sat at a table together our eyes were at a level.

I have blue eyes with bags or at least circles under them. I have age spots on my hands but my face is largely wrinkle-free. I’m told that I look much younger than my age. With the exception of my hair color I think I look much as I did 35 years ago and have been told as much by people who’ve known me since then.

I do not like being photographed. It interferes with my vanity.

Pictured you clean-shaven, no glasses. Contacts, maybe.

What does percentile mean in regard to one’s frame?

  • It means that I’m built on a different scale than most people. I’m squarer and my bones are thicker. At 0% body fat I’d weigh 170 lb.

Interesting written self portrait of yourself Dave. I was drawing a mental picture of you as I was reading it. The wire frame glasses and mustache are definitely compatible with any image I might have had before.

Many men seem to hang on to facial hair of their youth. It must become some kind of personal comfort zone for them. For instance my husband has had a mustache since leaving the Navy. In fact I never knew him when he didn’t have one. He would be an entirely new man should he opt to shave it off!

A few years ago you’d given your upper body measurements. I don’t recall them but since then I’d thought of you as having a lean, broad-shouldered build. How has your weight changed ovet the course of your life?

Your proportions would be good for competitive swimming if you were taller. If you were average height for a Dutchman….

  • I wear a 46 jacket and have a 36 waist. My weight hasn’t changed in decades.

While I’m at it, 16½ neck, 34 sleeve, 29 inseam. Those haven’t changed in 35 years.

No contacts. Too fussy. That extra time would be considered much better spent in a myriad of other activities.

    Dave,

“I do not like being photographed. It interferes with my vanity.”

I think there’s a picture of you in Google Streetview with one of your dogs. I’d have to find it again as it’s been a while (and it may not be there anymore), but I saw it when looking around your neighborhood in Google Earth after reading one your posts about your neighborhood.
