It Doesn’t Rain…

Flooded underpass at the Edens and Pratt
…but it pours. Pretty much literally. The picture above is of cars floating in the flooded underpass at the Edens Expressway and Pratt Avenue, a five minute walk from my house. Most of my neighbors got six inches of water in their basements; we only got a little seepage.

We were considerably more fortunate than many. In Albany Park just a mile or so south and east of us the streets were completely flooded and many basements and ground floor apartments had six feet of water.

Chicago’s rain on Saturday was record-breaking: 6.64 inches in a 24 hour period—the most in history. We’re closing in on the most rain on record for the month of September.
