I’m surprised that no one has mentioned that Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel and its aftermath are a textbook example of “fourth generation warfare” (4GW), quite cynically so. Hamas has gotten into Israel’s OODA loop and the Gazan people are being sacrificed to put Israel on the political disadvantage.
Have you read Boyd? Not sure it fits that paradigm. It looks to me like everyone is behaving very predictably. Israel pulled its troops into the West Bank away from Gaza. Hamas, being a group of terrorist devoted to killing Israelis predictably attacked since there was no one to stop them. Hamas kidnapped a bunch of Israelis knowing that they are loss averse and would go to extremes to get hostages back. Israel traded over 1000 prisoners, including Hamas members, to get back one Israeli soldier. There was some bad ass talk about not doing that this time but they were always going to fold on this issue. (It’s been reported that one of the people traded for Shalit helped plan the 10/7 attack.)
