Said another way how do we know that the strain of flu that’s infecting people in Mexico hasn’t been around for years, decades, forever? Improved methods of detection and increased reporting do not equate to increased levels of transmission.

Legionnaire’s Disease wasn’t identified until 1977 but it’s believed that it’s been around for a lot longer. We’re just looking for it now.
