Today Dean writes:
Patriotism isn’t dead. But since some people seem to have forgotten what patriotism looks like (or sadly never learned in the first place), here’s a handy test you can take: Symptoms of Unpatriotic Butt-Headedness
You’ll probably recognize some of these symptoms since they’re pretty visible these days.
I blame McDonalds. I’m serious. Well, sort of.
A Chinese poet once wrote Patriotism consists in large part of the good things to eat one had as a child and I think there’s some truth in that. But when moms take their kids to McDonalds it knocks the underpinnings from that. First, McDonalds isn’t good food. It’s just there. And, secondly, McDonalds is the same everywhere (or nearly the same). Product standards.
So if you think I’m saying that patriotism is motherhood, hot dogs, and apple pie then, yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. As long they’re good hot dogs and homemade apple pie.
