This morning the Wall Street Journal needles President Obama on nominating Democratic fund-raiser and gazillionaire Penny Pritzker for Secretary of Commerce. They conclude the editorial:
The Commerce job is notoriously one of Washington’s least influential. So if she wants to make a difference, perhaps Ms. Pritzker can resurrect the agenda to fix a broken government. At least she’d have something to occupy her days.
I think that’s wishful thinking. IMO it’s far more likely that the president views SecCom as a sinecure that will afford Ms. Pritzker plenty of time for her fund-raising activities. That view of Commerce is probably the reason that it’s notoriously “an outdated bureaucratic maze”.
sinecure — nice word usage.
I ain’t gonna comment. I’m just going to sit back and enjoy.
Obama? A real executive?
Heh.
