Could It Be the Adderall

I have a question. Is it possible that taking Adderall is a factor in many of the ills reportedly afflicting our young people? E.g. heart problems, anger, lower sex drive, various mental health problems.

Problems arent very common when taken as prescribed and monitored. When used otherwise it can lead to your list of problems. I dont know the actual incidence of usage by college students but the way they use it as I have seen it described ie taking it at night to help study/do homework is especially likely to cause psych issues.

My son hasn’t taken Adderral, but a similar medicine called Concerta.

My view is that taking these drugs – properly and as intended – is not a cause, but an effect and one that probably shares common causes with the other effects you cite (except maybe heart problems).

For example, most parents allow their kids to have these medications so they will do better in school and get better grades. Is that a problem with the kid, schools, or maybe both? And schools tend to encourage this, but not directly – medicated kids who can focus and not be disruptive are much better for schools, teachers, and administrators than the alternative.

There are also other things going on. As one example, while the science is still uncertain, there’s growing evidence that endocrine disruptors may be causing problems, including some of the ones you mention.
