Coming to Terms

Sheesh. How many of the people who insist that we come to terms with the past refuse to come to terms with the present?

I always come to terms on my terms.

  • “Coming to terms” is in danger of becoming an auto-antonym. It’s starting to mean using the past as a club to beat over the head of the present.

I haven’t’ been watching the new closely lately, is there something I missed that prompted this post?

  • I saw a number of articles this morning with lead-offs along the lines of “we’ve got to come to terms with…” in our history. I find it tiresome.

The difference between fact and fiction is that fiction needs to make sense. Real people and the real past are full of contradictions and twists and turns.

    Oh yeah, that’s annoying.
