and Indigenous Peoples Day.
I found the report from ABC 7 Chicago encouraging. At least it’s better to have Italian-Americans and Native Americans celebrating their own and each others heritages than at daggers drawn.

In New Orleans, St. Joseph’s day is the Italian celebration, with alters (it’s a Catholic thing) and parades. There are two Italian parades and one combined with St. Patrick. There are two additional St. Patrick day parades.
Being New Orleans, there are throws, and the floats are usually recycled from Mardi Gras. The one’s in the adjacent parish (county) are more family friendly.
It is kinda humourous seeing what everybody else calls a parade.
What I like best is our small local Fourth of July parade. Very Irish—more people march than watch.
Before Katrina, there used to be a lot of pick-up parades with most people joining the second line, but now, you need to get a permit first. It kinda defeats the whole purpose.
