City of the Smokes

As you may recall I went to New York City on business for the first time in years a month or so ago. One of the things I failed to mention about my visit that jumped out at me was a) how young the people in the city were and b) how many of them were smoking. Very different from Chicago where, other than standing on the sidewalk in front of buildings, you rarely see anyone smoking.

I’m not sure what I can attribute that to. Maybe I’m mistaken. Or maybe the very large percentage of foreign-born population (over 40%) has something to do with it.
