Be Careful What You Wish For

Back when I first lived in Chicago (more years ago than some of my readers have been alive), there was a height requirement for becoming a Chicago police officers. Shortly thereafter the height requirement was reduced or abandoned because they wanted a police force that looked a bit more like Chicago and couldn’t with the height requirement in place.

I wonder what effect the changing, er, silhouette of Chicago police officers has had on the disposition to use deadly force in confrontations?

I’ve wondered about this too. Many years ago I was told that the police officers who elected to serve as bouncers at the beer tents at the state fair were those who tended to work out and liked to “handle” people. I didn’t like the sound of that. But I’ve thought about it and wonder if ultimately the police have a need / role for people with superior physical attributes and confidence in them. Even if they might be dicks.

Well, it looks like it’s official. Emails have emerged making it clear that Police Law, and Rahm, knew and actively participated in the bribe, er, negotiation with Mcdonalds family for $5MM in exchange for basically sealing the killing video until after the election.

National media. It’s your turn. Your moment is now.

Could be, but I suspect there was at least as much in the past, it just didn’t get reported. Absent the videos that are coming out, these just get reported as resisting arrest or something. IIRC, the police in general still don’t keep records of their shooting civilians. Heck, your cops managed to run a torture program in secret for quite a while. Wonder who else did and got away with it?

That said, I also suspect the surge in violence in the late 80s and early 90s was also a big factor.
