Well, it’s done. I now have artificial vision. I noticed almost immediately that my vision without glasses was clearer than it had been since I was in fourth grade. Colors were truer. Everything is still out of focus but not as out of focus as it used to be.
My old prescription is now completely obsolete and it will be a month before it makes any sense to get a new one. Following my ophthalmologist’s instructions I purchased a pair of “cheaters” from Amazon. They’re not perfect but they give me hope that my vision will be easily correctible.
So, now reading is difficult and driving impossible. This will be the longest time I’ve been unable to drive since when I worked in Germany more than 50 years ago. I didn’t drive at all when I was there—I didn’t need to.
I’m only able to type this post because I’m a touch typist. At my high school you had to pass a touch typing test to graduate. Thank you, SLUH.

Welcome back, Dave.
If you lived in Florida and you were like your neighbors you would still drive. The old folks down there seem to believe that driving is a God given right and poor vision or dementia shouldn’t stop them.

Your recovery has definitely been slower and more complicated than mine was. After both surgeries, I was able to both drive and read the next day.
Regardless, I’m happy to hear that the color vision is much improved and that the prospects of excellent sight with corrective lenses are strong.
When you recover again, charges against the Broadview 6 have been dropped, with prejudice. IIRC, when you covered this I warned that we should not be taking the claims made by prosecutors at face value. Note that they followed the pattern of so many other cases being brought by the Trump lawyers in these immigration cases. They start with charges with potential long sentences, then get reduced to misdemeanor charges and then get dropped.
We find out with this case that an earlier attempt to get a grand jury failed so the prosecutors engaged in unethical/illegal actions to get an indictment and when the judge asked for a transcript to see if their behavior was as bad as alleged the prosecutors initially redacted the bad parts. No subtlety.

Give it time, it will get better. The first time I drove three miles to get bacon biscuit, depth perception was difficult, so I kept my distance and a week later, the centerline was were it should be instead of even with me.
