Are Yard Signs Obsolete?

It’s just 43 days until the election and I’ve been counting yard signs. “Black Lives Matter” signs outnumber Biden-Harris signs about 5:1. I have seen a grand total of one yard sign supporting Trump’s re-election. That’s not particularly surprising. This is a pretty Democratic area and self-preservation is probably enough to account for it.

Either the Biden-Harris campaign is taking the Chicago turnout and vote for granted, there isn’t much enthusiasm for Biden, or yard signs are obsolete. Maybe some combination. I haven’t seen a single yard sign supporting Pritzker’s “Fair Tax”.

We have a lot of state’s attorney signs up this year; not many others. I noticed yesterday someone put up what appeared to be a homemade sign opposed to the emergency restrictions. It said something like “Enough is Enough. Let the People be Free.”

In a CA community, adjacent to Los Angeles, there are only Biden and BLM signs – no Trump signs, or signs insinuating a conservative bent.

I personally think signs are losing their importance, as political polarization has become more intense and violent towards the minority having opposing opinions from the majority living in a particular area. This goes hand in hand with the growing trend of forcing PC commentary on everyone, shaming those who don’t comply, which ultimately discourages free speech openness.

Welcome to the emerging cancel culture society being introduced by the radical left, who is now in charge of the Democrat party.

  • The only state’s attorney signs I have seen here are in support of O’Brien (the challenger). Keep in mind that Kim Foxx narrowly won the primary.

I think the state’s attorney signs are from people working in county government, plus the incumbent lives in this neighborhood. Otherwise the more I think about it, the lack of Presidential signs really stands out. Maybe the distribution network is broken down because I think this neighborhood like their signs.

I’m sure this will be very situational. Here in Beaufort Cty, SC you see almost no BLM, and few Harris – Biden. Trump everywhere. They had a rally Saturday. I was even surprised by the turnout.

Our neighborhood is probably 20% Black. There are no BLM signs, those are thick in the white suburbs. They have doorbell cameras and neighborhood watch so any Blacks in the flesh would raise suspicion.
For some reason we have lots of signs saying things like, “You Matter” or “Don’t Give Up”. I don’t know what’s behind that, but I’m suspicious.

    Obsolete ?
Yes, the money is better spent on Facebook ads since most drivers are looking at their phones anyway.

Would agree that the time for yard signs is past. Only seen one so far and it was at a Congressional candidates college. Bumper stickers seem limited to local committee members, though a lot of faded Trump stickers abound. Since County Commission is on the ballot, the road crews have been busy.

Have also noted the motivation signs, some times a cigar is a cigar unless its aftershave.

They’re around in Southeast PA. Upper Bucks and upper Montgomery are almost entirely Trump. Central Montgomery Co seems to be a mix. Ditto Chester Co. More Biden than Trump down near the Delaware state line. But not lots and lots of Biden anywhere. And nothing other than standard two-pin preprinted Bidens, whereas any number of self-made Trumps, some of which took some effort to make. Definitely a rural (Trump) versus suburban (Biden) divide.

Only a couple of BLM’s, and in areas I would consider upper middle class. Some anti-lockdowns in Upper Bucks & Montgomery.

I’ve never liked yard signs or other overt signals of political affiliation like number stickers, so I don’t really have a dog in this fight. I have never had a yard sign and never intend to have a yard sign.

I moved here after the 2016 election, so can’t compare and the mid-terms don’t really count. I live in an area that’s mostly red so there more Trump signs but that’s not saying much. Along the major roadways all the signs are for local candidates.

All the signs I see around here are for Trump. None of them are defaced. Lot fewer than in 2016. Area is about 50/50 split in voting.
