Another Call for Emanuel’s Resignation

Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel columnist James E. Causey has added his voice to those calling for Chicago Mayor Emanuel’s resignation:

Rahm Emanuel has to go. The Chicago mayor must resign immediately to restore trust in a city still reeling from the public execution of a teenager by a police officer more than a year ago.

Emanuel demanded the resignation of Chicago Police Superintended Garry McCarthy because he said police officers are only effective when they have the trust of those they serve.

But what about Emanuel? Who can trust him? Was he silent because this incident occurred during an election cycle? He should do the next right thing. He should resign.

I continue to think that Mayor Emanuel will hold out until he begins to become too much of a liability to Hillary Clinton or the Democratic Party more generally.

The latest shoe to drop in this story is that the Department of Justice has announced that it is opening an investigation into the Chicago Police Department. Presumably, a wider-reaching investigation than the one opened into the killing of Laquan McDonald, which began more than a year ago, is intended. Something will depend on whether the DOJ investigation is thought of as part of the ongoing cover-up, an attempt at kicking the entire issue safely past the 2016 general election.

I genuinely think that Democrats are underestimating the potential impact of what’s going on in Chicago not just on Chicago but on what remains of the New Deal Coalition. Democrats don’t rack up electoral victories based on the support of the Harvard faculty directory. The reality is that without black voters Democrats are Nowheresville. That the Democratic leadership is so old and so white given the demographics of the base is an outrage.

…and, black citizens are “Nowheresville” in sticking mindlessly as a voting block for democrats.

It would be interesting to see how Chicago PD compares to New Orleans PD (NOPD). At one time, NOPD did not just provide protection for the drug gangs, but they ran the drug gangs.

There was at least one incident where a contract was put out to murder a woman who filed a complaint with Internal Affairs, but the worst was one cop murdered her partner. They were off-duty, and the partner was providing security for a restaurant. The cop robbed the place and killed her partner.

The majority of NOPD officers had drop weapons, and unsurprisingly, NOPD never killed an unarmed suspect. Often, the suspects were carrying drugs. I do not know what goes on these days.

I do not recall a lot of police shootings, but my memory might be fuzzy. I do remember that there were a lot of beat-downs. Today, it seems that the streets are the same on both sides where criminals and cops are more likely to shoot you. Back then, a beat-down was just part of the game.

I grew up on the South Side and have complaints against Chicago cops going back some 55 years. Complaints against insane public school teachers, too.

Many Chicagoans would do themselves a favor by moving across the border to Kenosha or Michiana. Easy commute.

I’m still at a loss as to how this ensnares Rahm in the absence of national media vigilance. Obama and Hillary can now avoid comment on an ongoing investigation. Rahm can cynically express support and cooperation. A few policemen can be sacrificed. People lose focus; the family has been paid off and word goes out to the usual agitators to cool it. A report citing “shortcomings” is issued just prior or after the election, when it’s safe. Looks like standard operating procedure.

As I noted before, (call me a cynic), only Black Votes Matter. And here’s the kicker. Blacks will vote for the Democrat, Hillary etc. I guarantee it. It shows how powerful making people accomplices or wards of the state really is.

Only if a vigilant, national level press grabs this and simply won’t let go is there a different result. Here’s one of those shiny new dimes Dave carries around that says it won’t happen. The NYT NBC etc have bigger fish to fry, like getting Hillary elected. In fact, I’ll bet you if a Republican candidate came to town trying to keep it in the news the narrative, as they like to say, would be cynical opportunism, with Hillary for sure calling for “wait until all the facts come in.”

A political whitewash of a political whitewash. Count on it.
