Afghan blogger back from hiatus

Several weeks ago Afghan blogger Sohrab Kabuli of Afghan Lord received death threats on his blog from someone accessing the Internet via the BBC’s Internet connection in Kabul. Concerned, he went on hiatus. Now he’s back:

“I am a human being, a free spirit, who believes and is associated with freedom. I have the right to close my message box so that I remain free. I do not want BBC to be a threat to my freedom of expression. This freedom is quite valuable to me. I have the right to write and to criticize. But I will never ever allow anyone to disrespect, humiliate and threaten me with death.

[…]

I am a human being, who has the right to write and disseminate. I want to communicate and be friends with the whole world. I want to share my anguish with all Afghans currently out of the motherland no matter for whatever reasons. I want to write about myself and hear from them. I want to write about freedom, love and pain.. I want to write about culture, literature, poetry music and art. Also about kids deprived of their right to education and schooling. Kids who find a piece of bread and are as delighted as if they had found paradise. I want to bridge the happiness of children around the world with the pity of kids in my country. I want to write about those post-September 11 kids who are still waiting for their dads to come home, about those women who are being beaten up. I want to write about those ladies who are burning themselves, about parents who have lost their kids, about hopeless and helpless widows, about the struggle against terrorism.

I would love to write about the world with no boundary, color, religion and region. I want to write for humanity.

I would love to write about people being lucky, about weeping, about loneliness and whatever I may wish to…

But I do not like someone to write a threatening death message under my article about freedom of _expression. I do not like someone to threat me to death from an international media network. I do not like the Taliban and Al-Qaida to write a message in my weblog.”
