2nd Quarter Increase in PC Sales

I can’t help but wonder if the second quarter 2008 increase in sales of PC’s:

SEATTLE – Computer shipments rose faster than expected in the second quarter, fueled by exceptional demand in emerging markets and a decline in prices in the U.S. and Western Europe, two research groups said Wednesday.

Worldwide shipments increased 16 percent from a year ago to 71.9 million PCs, according to Stamford, Conn.-based Gartner Inc. The company had predicted 11.2 percent growth.

is related in any way to corporate buyers eager to get in a few last deliveries before Microsoft stopped shipping Windows XP so that they could avoid Vista? There’s not enough info in the news reports to draw a conclusion one way or another.

We should be able to derive some information from this quarter and the next’s results. If there’s a sharp drop and in effect buyers were accelerating future purchases, we’ll see a notable drop.
