What If They Gave Halloween…

and nobody came? Due to demographics and, I presume, the weather which was cold and wintry mixy, we did not have a single trick-or-treater last night. It was rather sad.

Now my wife will be forced, totally against her will of course, to eat all the candy we purchased for the occasion. Fortunately, I had the foresight to purchase things that she liked.

Very light turnout here in Austin, where the weather was gorgeous. It’s hard to explain.

I’d say about 1/2 the kids here compared to last year, and this is family neighborhood. At the end I was giving out handfuls of candy just to get rid of it.

Many more little shits than usual as well – I had five tweens come up, say nothing, and reach in my candy bowl to help themselves (I sit outside and enjoy the nice weather with a glass of wine). Maybe I’m finally at the “get off my lawn” age…

Here in quiet St Cloud, I got only 3 small groups of Trick or Treaters.

What if they held a Population Control Festival and nobody came?

Answer: the whales, salmon, seals, polar bears, monarch butterflies, frogs and birds, even the trees, would celebrate.

When I was growing up, we would go to church the day after for All Saints Day, and then, we would visit every dead relative’s grave my grandmother could find. I do not think she had flowers for all of them, but she said a prayer for everyone.

As kids, this was wasting valuable candy eating time, and because you dressed up for church, we were uncomfortable.

  • I don’t think people have trick or treated in this neighborhood since it flipped from white to black, and certainly not this millennium.

So we get the little one dressed up and take her to the big street party in the old, renovated downtown of a place called Wintr Garden. Lots of people, lots of fun, and she gets more than enough candy for someone her size.
