The Signs

When I looked at the tattoos adorning the face of a man who “gunned down” a police officer in New Mexico:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A police officer who authorities say attempted to chase down a 38-year-old man with three active arrest warrants was fatally shot by the suspect Friday after an exchange of gunfire in a southern New Mexico town.

The suspect, Joseph Moreno, also was killed in the morning shootout near a trailer park in Alamogordo, police said at a news conference. The desert town of about 31,000 people is home to the White Sands National Monument and Holloman Air Force Base.

Police identified the slain officer as Clint Corvinus, a four-year veteran who graduated from high school in Alamogordo. Authorities said he is survived by his parents, girlfriend and an 8-year-old daughter.

my immediate reaction was that it was Santa Muerte stuff. “Santa Muerte”, literally “Saint Death” is a Mexican religious cult. It’s closely identified with criminality and has been adopted in particular by the drug cartels.

It saddens me to see it making its way north of the border. Here in Chicago there are programs specifically targeted at fighting it.

Seems to me everyone needs somewhere to belong and something to believe in. Turn your back on God and you must fill that void somehow.

People looking like this should just be thrown into a wood chipper. The message the facial tattoo gives is nothing more than flipping the bird at society. Kill em at the start!
