The Schuler Boys

The picture above is of my grandfather, Fred Schuler on our right (I think), and his brothers Anton (Tony) on our left, and Joseph (Josie) in the center. Tony grew up to be Sheriff of St. Louis and, later, a wholesale liquor distributor. Josie died young under circumstances that I’ll tell you about some other time. His death certificate says tuberculosis but the family story is that he used to take the milk bills out in trade.

Judging by their clothes and their ages I would think this picture was taken no later than 1895.

A fine bunch of young thugs, I must say. It’s no wonder they were expelled from St. Mary of Victory’s parochial school.

    LOL

They don’t look like shrinking violets.

    But consider the times………….

Hi Dave, Grandpa Tony was born on August 22, 1885. He looks to be around 3-5 years old in that picture. When was Joseph and Fred born? Thanks for sharing the picture….our family didn’t have pictures until he was a grown man and married Virginia Veronica O’Donnell. Pat from California

  • Josie was born in 1882 and Fred was born in 1884. Judging by Josie’s height, I figured he was between 10 and 12 when the picture was taken which would mean it was taken between 1892 and 1894. That’s why I wrote “no later than 1895”.

I’ve got a dozen or more pictures I’ll be sending you copies of including one that I think is a picture of your Grandmother Virginia at a younger age than any others you have. And some rather amusing pictures that I think are of your mother.
