The Punch Line

My wife reminded me that I didn’t give you the punch line to my story about my learning to read. At the end of the summer we were on a family trip, one of the earliest of many we were to take over the years. We stopped for gas and a potty break. When I came out of the restroom, I asked my father “Daddy, what does ‘prophylactic’ mean?” He replied, “Something to keep you clean, Dave.” Then they knew I could read.
