Political Message of the Day

If you dance with the devil, then you haven’t got a clue, for you think you’ll change the devil, but the devil changes you.

    Cryptic message of the day.

  • I don’t think it’s that cryptic. If nobody provides an explanation within the next few hours, I’ll explain it myself. It ties in neatly with the discussion Andy and I are having in the post below.

To my knowledge “dance with the devil” comes in various forms and meanings, but as a general proposition it means if you compromise your own values in league with shady people, justified by perceived justified aims, you will in fact ultimately compromise your values.

How that fits with events today I don’t know. However, I suspect it falls under the umbrella of personal viewpoints.

  • The Republicans accepted Donald Trump and he’s changing the party in ways they could never have predicted. If the Democrats accept Bernie Sanders in the belief that they can moderate or tame him, they’re kidding themselves. He’ll change the Democratic Party.

The Republicans accepted Donald Trump because he could deliver political power. If Sanders becomes the Democratic Nominee, he may very well help deliver Political power back to the Democrats by keeping the house and returning the senate back to the Democrats.

Trump created his fiction and his MAGA folks accepted that fiction and gave the Republicans power. Sanders could very well sell his own fiction and return power to the Democrats. This election is not just about the presidency, it is about gaining political power, passing bills, the courts, taxes, climate change. Sanders, like Trump, can rouse the masses, get them to get out and vote. He may very well be the devil to dance with, just a different kind of devil. I don’t want to change Bernie, I want the control of power to shift back to something less destructive. He’ll never get everything he talks about, but he could help take the power back from the Republicans.

In two sentences you instantiate the very point I’m making.

From where I sit, Trump is simply doing what he said he would. Not about power. Not unpredicted.

People just don’t seem to be able to separate his actions from his personality.
