I began writing a detailed annotation to President Barack Obama’s inauguration speech and, after lavishing several hours on it, scrapped it. I felt that there was no way to write such a post without seeming churlish and pedantic which would not have been my intent.
With Lincoln’s Second Innugaral rated a 10 and William Henry Harrison’s rated a zero, I give Obama a 5.0. Pleasing to the ear, but I don’t remember anything about it twelve hours later.
I agree. That’s how it struck me, too.
Frankly, I don’t know what those who are raving about the speech heard. They must be grading the speaker rather than the speech. Reminds me of the Romanian gymnastics judges.
