Movies for Memorial Day

This is a bit late but here’s a viewing list of movies suitable for Memorial Day.

Glory
The Red Badge of Courage
The Big Parade
The Best Years of Our Lives
Saving Private Ryan
Memorial Day

TV usually fills up their schedules with war movies on Memorial Day but I don’t think that really gets the point.

That last picture is a little gem that’s streamable on NetFlix. Take a look at it. You’ll be glad you did.

The Americanization of Emily, the most dead-on movie commentary regarding war that has ever been produced.

    With the Marines at Tarawa
Peleliu 1944: Horror In The Pacific
To The Shores Of Iwo Jima

You can find them on Youtube, and of course, they are about my beloved Marines. The Tarawa movie was controversial, and it required FDR’s approval to be shown to the US public. It also did not go into what a cluster f*ck Tarawa was.

(They miscalculated the tides, and the landing craft got hung on reefs too far from shore. Marines took about 3,000 casualties in 76 hours.)

The Peleliu movie is not from WW2, and it goes into more details.

Victory at Sea — any episode, or all the episodes, with the sound turned up for the music.
